Boom Lake

It felt like another Herculean effort to get out to the mountains.  I watched Black Swan (Natalie Portman - love her acting) the rainy weekend before.  I knew it was a dark movie, but it came highly recommended by Rob C, and I like dark, meaningful films.  Little did I know just how twisted it was, and that Lyme and its treatment puts one in a fragile emotional state (this last fact I found out later in talking to Jen and Sarah, who both said they are limited to watching cute animated films now).  As a result I couldn't sleep that night due to the crazy images from the film that kept popping into my head, nor did I sleep well all the next week.  It was like having post traumatic stress syndrome.  Finally the weather cleared and I was desperate for the mountains.

Boom Lake is an 11 km round trip with minimal elevation gain in Kootenay National Park.  Earlier in the season there are orchids along the trail.  I brought my camp chair, tripod and camera.  It took me 3 hours to get to the lake because of Lyme disease and I didn't even think I would make it there.  After the first 30 min I had to take a 1 hr break (in which the camp chair came in very handy).  But with each breath and step I felt strength and stamina returning to my body.  So by the time I got to the lake I felt less sick than I'd felt in weeks - almost well actually.  I spent two hours sitting at the edge of the lake soaking up the 25°C sunshine on this still day.  Three girls went skinny dipping in the lake - shrieking in delight at the freezing cold water - awesome.  I watched a dragonfly snag an insect out of the air as it flew over the lake.

Up until September 15 we had weather like this:

At the end of September it became this:

One brave summer bell flower
That was a quick fall season!
